Schlossresidenz
Two nights for two, twenty minutes from Hanover.
Drive through the gate on a Friday and up the avenue, and the week is behind you before you have switched off the engine. The Schlossresidenz stands in Schloss Ricklingen, a village that is part of Garbsen, in the middle of 80,000 square metres of parkland. Fourteen apartments and suites, two ponds, old trees and a kind of quiet that towns have long forgotten. That is exactly why most of our guests come as a couple.
What makes a weekend here
Friday begins whenever you arrive. You receive the code for the key safe in advance, the apartment is ready from 3 pm, and if it can be arranged, your host will welcome you in person. In the colder half of the year the fire is lit in the lounge in the evening, the honesty bar is open, and the library holds more books than remote controls.
Saturday belongs to the park. In the morning, the long breakfast table with eggs from our own hens and honey from our own bees; afterwards, a stroll to the alpacas and the black swans on the pond. At midday the sauna or, in summer, the natural swimming pond. If you would like to go out, Hanover, the Herrenhausen Gardens and the Steinhuder Meer are each twenty minutes away.
Sunday is unhurried. Check-out is by 10.30 am, or by 12 noon on request for an extra charge. Breakfast is served until 10 am, and nobody rushes you.
Why two nights
One night is enough to arrive. Two nights are enough to really be here: a Saturday without a clock, the park once in the morning light and once in the evening, a second breakfast at the long table. For a long weekend, arrive on Thursday or stay until Monday. The calendar for each unit shows you the current prices day by day.
The right unit for two
Every unit has its own kitchen or kitchenette, its own bathroom and a double bed. For a weekend for two, these are the ones guests ask about most:
- 06 Singschwan, 56 m², a first-floor suite with a seating area.
- 08 Paradiesvogel, 61 m² beneath the roof, with a guest WC and the most space.
- 07 Blauer Pfau, 44 m², a first-floor suite with a view across the grounds.

- 11 Nymphensittich, 45 m² with a terrace in the house by the pond.

A quiet house for adults
The Schlossresidenz is not a family hotel and does not aim to be one. Bookings can be made by guests aged 18 and over; accompanying guests are welcome from the age of 12. Quiet hours run from 9 pm to 6 am, and the grounds are large enough that you will not hear your neighbours. Smoking is permitted outdoors only, and pets are not allowed.
Occasions for two
An anniversary, a birthday, a proposal, the night after your own wedding: when you book, tell us what you have in mind. Breakfast in your room instead of at the table, or a late check-out, can be arranged, and we are happy to discuss in person whatever else we can prepare. What to know before you book
A little honesty up front saves disappointment in the evening:
- No restaurant on site. Breakfast is always included, every unit has a kitchen, and coffee, tea and cake are available all day. For dinner, drive into Garbsen, to the Blauer See or to Hanover. Our recommendations are under Food and drink.
- No air conditioning. The units beneath the roof can get warm on hot days; we are happy to bring you a fan.
- The sauna is small but good, not a spa with a relaxation landscape. In return, it is yours around the clock, with no booking and no extra charge. More under Retreat: sauna, natural pond and park.
